Reading Anime Society

Konnichiwa!

Greetings from Reading University Anime Society! As a society we aim to bring you the newest and best in anime straight from Japan, promote the culture and the unique medium that is anime and manga to students (and everyone else!) in Reading, and provide a society for people with similar interests to get together and share their passion for all things anime/manga-related.

Wait, what’s anime and manga exactly?
The terms cover animation ("anime") and graphic novels and serials ("manga") originating from Japan. They come in a huge variety of styles and genres appealing to people of all ages and backgrounds, from children’s adventure series to dark, mature mysteries to epic sci-fi and cute rom-coms, so we can guarantee that there really is something for everyone!

Unfortunately, unlike countries such as France and the USA where anime is readily available on television and video, it's rather a scarce commodity in the UK. And that brings me to why the Anime Society exists: to educate the students of Reading about Anime!

So what do we do?

We meet twice a week, once for an evening viewing of brand new, subtitled anime fresh out of Japan, introducing you to some of the best new stuff so you don’t have to go through the bother of tracking it down yourself or waiting for DVD releases that may never happen. We show six series, covering a wide spectrum of genres and animation styles, we’ve got comedy, action, romance, general wackiness and everything besides.

At the end of the week we also get together to view classic series, old favourites, or maybe just good movies and series that may have gone under your anime radar the first time they came around.

If that wasn’t enough, we also provide a well-stocked manga library so you can also check out any manga that catch your eye.

And all this for just £5 a year!

Okay, so when and where does all this happen?

Meetings are held every week during term in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building, Room 27 on Mondays and Fridays with meetings lasting from 7pm until around 10pm. Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend, whether you’re a long-time, die-hard fan, or completely new to anime, and we’d love to see you there!

Thanks, hope to see you at the next meeting ?

よろしく おねがいします~~~
