Nathalie Marini

Nathalie is Project Manager for Environmental Science at Quaternary Scientific (Quest); she joined the team in 2010. Nathalie draws on expertise from academics based at the University of Reading, as well as a network of external specialists, in order to best advise our clients on specialist techniques and manage Environmental Science projects. Projects centred around or including geochemistry, elemental or mineralogical analyses, organic chemistry and micromorphology techniques are co-ordinated by Nathalie, from sample preparation through to analysis and reporting/publication.

Nathalie is from Corsica and is fluent in French, English, Spanish and competent in Italian, which allows us to operate efficiently within Europe. She has an equivalent of a BSc (DEUG-Licence) and MA (Master-DEA) in History, specialising in Prehistory, at the University of Corsica-Pasquale Paoli, France. Nathalie completed her PhD in 2008 at the University of Corsica-Pasquale Paoli and the CNRS, investigating socio-environmental interactions in Corsica during prehistoric times, at LISA-UMR 6240. During the course of her studies Nathalie gained fieldwork experience on archaeological surveys, rock carving studies and archaeological excavations in France and Italy, as well as palaeoenvironmental investigations in Corsica and in the UK. Nathalie has also participated on excavations in Corsica, on sites dated from the Mesolithic to Iron Age periods, as well as providing expertise to projects as a specialist illustrator and surveyor. Nathalie joined the University of Reading initially in 2009 in a post-doctoral research position involving pollen analysis with Dr Nick Branch. This was followed by another research position at Reading to undertake GIS analysis for the Inca Ushnu Project: Landscape, Site & Symbol in the Andes.

Nathalie also supervises students at the University of Reading, providing support and formal teaching, at the undergrade and postgraduate level, on the use of GIS, as well as assisting research projects within the School of Archaeology, Geography and Environmental Science.
