About Us

The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences can trace its origins to the formation of the Department of Psychology in 1921, making it one of the oldest of its kind in the UK.

Brain_illustrationOur Psychology courses have a long-standing reputation for excellence in experimental psychology which spans nearly 100 years. Today the school is home to a vibrant community of more than 50 academic and clinical staff. Their innovative  research-informed undergraduate degrees are accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS).

SLT_ThumbnailOur Clinical Language Sciences courses have been delivering one of the leading Speech & Language Therapy degrees (HCPC accredited) in the UK since its inception 40 years ago. In recent years has expanded to over 25 academic and clinical staff, and now encompasses teaching expertise in linguistics and multilingualism, as well as clinical training.

We have invested heavily in state-of-the-art research facilities including brain imaging systems (MRI, EEG, TMS), and are unique in housing four clinical research facilities on site (Autism, Anxiety & Depression, Speech & Language Therapy, and Dementia).

Finally, the School works closely with our partners in the NHS to support three on site clinics, as well as an additional independent Autism Centre. Further information on these clinics and the vital role that they serve can be found by clicking the links below.
