PGCE Secondary (Modern Languages)

Duration: Full-time 10 months

Our programme fully reflects both the needs of language teachers in today’s secondary schools and current thinking about modern languages. It sees the teaching and learning of a foreign language as closely related to the contemporary civilisation of the country and to the communication needs of the learner.

We aim to give you a theoretical framework for language teaching, with opportunities to observe skilled and experienced practitioners in the languages classroom, and to offer practical advice on the preparation, conduct and evaluation of language lessons.
An experienced team of lecturers contribute to the programme. It is also supported by a wide range of teaching materials and equipment (video, multimedia computers, DVD players, interactive whiteboard, cable and satellite TV) and an extensive range of recorded material.

Ratings of the course from both internal and external reviews are consistently excellent.

Trainees have the opportunity to enhance their subject knowledge through a range of self-study materials and tutor-led sessions.

Fact File

Entry Requirements: Applicants should normally hold a good Honours degree in one of the modern foreign languages. Parts of the interview for admission will be conducted in the applicant’s foreign language.
