Ben Pedley Award

For outstanding contribution to the musical community of the University.

We are proud to present the Ben Pedley Award for outstanding contribution to the musical community of the University each year, in memory of second year undergraduate student Ben Pedley.

This award is open to all students in their second year of undergraduate study at the University who regularly take part in musical activity. This could include membership of ensembles and music societies within the University or in the wider local community. We are seeking nominees who are a positive ambassador for music.

Nominations are invited from any member of the University and local community, including staff, students and local community members.

The winner of this prestigious award will receive a monetary prize of £150 and will be presented with their award at the Spring concert each year.

Details of the nomination period for 2019 will be released later this year.

Current Winner:

Charlotte Lynch, second year undergraduate, BA Primary Education with Music Specialism.

In his presentation speech, the Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell said:

'To say she is active in music performance is quite an understatement' Ben Pedley Award - Charlotte Lynch

'If Ben were here tonight, he would recognise in Charlotte a kindred spirit because she is talented, reliable, friendly and always a pleasure to work with. She is a positive force in any ensemble, working always for the benefit of her peers. It is a testament to her standing that she received multiple nominations for this award. She is a worthy recipient of the Ben Pedley Award and sets the bar very high for those who will follow her.'

Charlotte was presented with her award at the Ben Pedley Memorial Concert, on Saturday 10 March 2018 by the Vice Chancellor, and members of Ben's family.
