Mileage rates

Mileage rates and inter-campus distances. Different amounts will be reimbursed for mileage according to 3 different categories:

A Where a personal vehicle is used for a business journey, rates are applied according to the length of the journey

B Where a member of staff has a University leased vehicle, this rate will be applied for business mileage

C Where a business journey is made between University campuses, the distance is fixed.

Note that for these purposes a round trip is a journey to one or more places and back again. Even if the outward and return travel happens on different days, the whole period is the round trip and must be claimed as one amount of mileage.

Note:

In Hong Kong and Malaysia there are no fixed mileage rates applicable when staff use their own vehicle for a business journey

Where a member of staff has a University leased vehicle, this rate will apply to any business mileage claimed.

These are fixed distances for the purposes of claiming reimbursement.

The distance applies regardless of the direction of the journey and regardless of any changes in route.

*The passenger allowance only applies to the cars and vans category for each passenger who is a University member of staff also travelling on a University business journey; there is no passenger allowance payable for third parties, for example visitors or students.
