About European Studies

The Louvre, ParisEuropean Studies is a degree programme that draws together the skills of teachers and researchers from a range of departments across the University who share an interest in European history, politics, and culture. While the programme is run from the School of Languages and European Studies and contains a strong language element, contributors also come from departments as varied as Politics and International Relations, Sociology, History, and History of Art. Many contributors have also pooled their research efforts in a broad research theme on Modern European Histories and Cultures.

This variation and flexibility make the European Studies programme one of the most unusual and exciting in the University. It also attracts one of the most varied student bodies. Students from European states such as Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Greece, Spain, and Poland, as well as France, Germany, Italy and the UK have all joined the programme in recent years, lending a wealth of different individual perspectives to the seminar discussions that are a crucial element of European Studies.
