What course should I take?
Whether you want to improve your English language, learn a foreign language, study a foundation course for undergraduate study, or want to study a professional development course, the International Study and Language Institute (ISLI) has a range of courses to suit your needs. If you are unsure which course you need see the examples below.
I need to improve my English for my next course of study...
Course: Pre-sessional English Programme (PSE)
The courses help you to improve your English language ability and develop the academic skills you will need for your degree. If you have a conditional offer for a degree programme this course will help you to meet the English language requirements. Our PSE is recognised as 'outstanding' by BALEAP, the global forum for English language professionals.
I want to improve my English while I am studying...
Course: Academic English Programme (AEP)
Whether you are a member of staff or a student whose first language is not English, the Academic English Programme (AEP) offers classes in academic writing, speaking, listening and pronunciation throughout the academic year, supporting you to develop your full academic potential. We also offer writing and speaking advisory services for those that want more one-to-one tuition.
I want to take a course that directly leads onto undergraduate study
Course: International Foundation Programme (IFP)
If you want to take an undergraduate degree but your equivalent secondary school qualification does not meet the entry requirements, you may have to take the IFP in order to be accepted. Our IFP gives access to almost all University of Reading undergraduate degrees accross all four faculties as well as many other UK universities. Our IFP is run entirely by our institution meaning our tuition and administration is taught within the university environment. With over 30 years' experience in IFP provision we utilise our academic expertise to ensure our programme is top quality in both its tuition and student experience.

We offer two different types of language test:
The Test of English for Educational Purposes (TEEP) is a test of proficiency in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) for students whose first language is not English, and who are planning to study on a degree programme in UK higher education. The test is developed and delivered by the University of Reading and is accepted for English language admission at a number of other UK Universities.
The IELTS is a test designed to demonstrate your English Language proficiency for visas or for educational purposes. Our institution was selected by the British Council test centre and we offer IELTS preparation courses prior to taking the test.

Our language expertise even extends to foreign language provision. Our language courses are designed for both students and non-students.
