Job Title:

Co-ordinating IWLP staff teaching German and English for Erasmus Students modules.

As IWLP Staff Training and CPD Co-ordinator, encouraging the continuing professional development of IWLP staff and devising and delivering training sessions.

Induction of new staff.

Encouraging independent learning among students through:

- staff training sessions;

- the provision of materials for staff and students;

- the introduction of the Language Learning Advisor scheme, whereby undergraduate students of modern languages are trained to offer advice on language skills acquisition and study strategies to their peers in MLES and IWLP;

- the organisation of additional language practice sessions delivered by Erasmus students.

Areas of Interest:

Teaching methodology, including co-teaching the 'Introduction to Language Teaching' module for Erasmus students which won a University team teaching award in 2011 and co-presenting the module at the LLAS 'Language Futures: Languages in Higher Education' conference in Edinburgh in 2012.

Teaching experience:

Alison joined the Institution Wide Language Programme at Reading University in 1995, having previously been Deputy Head of Department in a secondary school. She teaches German and French for IWLP and also teaches for German Studies in MLES. From 1997 to 2010 she was an Open University lecturer in German and French, and has also taught both languages in in-company business contexts.
