The International Study and Language Institute (ISLI) at the University of Reading specialises in providing a range of language courses and academic training to international students and the wider University community. With programmes that have over 30 years' experience, the ISLI has established a reputation for academic excellence and student support. Academic English Courses
Pre-sessional English Programme (PSE) - providing English language teaching (ELT) to students before they start University, the PSE has a particular focus on teaching academic English and academic skills. This course is also known as English for Academic Purposes (EAP).

Academic English Programme (AEP) - current students and staff are able to continue developing their English language skills through the in-sessional courses, helping to support their study and professional development.

Short courses in Academic English - we offer short courses in English language for our university partners. These courses have flexible entry dates and course content and duration can be catered for the needs of the course requirements
International Foundation Programme (IFP)
The IFP is a one year access course which enables students from across the world to progress onto an undergraduate degree at Reading or elsewhere in the UK. With over 30 years' experience in teaching and administering the IFP we have vast knowledge in preparing students for academic study matched with exemplary student support to ensure they succeed.

Foreign Language Courses
Institution Wide Language Programme (IWLP) - the IWLP offers students and staff the opportunity to learn a wide range of languages for fun or for credit including: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish.

Test of English for Educational Purposes (TEEP) - TEEP is the University's own secure English language test open to current students and externals. The test is widely accepted and has been used as the model for English language assessments across the world.
IELTS - Internationally recognised for use in academic and immigration purposes accross the globe, we have our own British Council approved IELTS centre at Reading that administers official IELTS tests throughout the year.
Self-Access Centre for Language Learning (SACLL) - SACLL offers a dedicated resource library and study centre for language learning. As well as a broad range of textbooks and printed learning materials, the Centre has computer facilities enabling online learning and access to audio and video resources.

Professional Development Courses and Consultancy
Professional Development - We offer a variety of professional development courses that can help academic staff develop their teaching techniques and enhance their teaching materials.
Consultancy - the ISLI is able to offer external organisation a range of consultancy services to assist with the creation and development of English language teaching and assessment programmes, academic skills development and a range of other services. Staff at the ISLI are experts in their field and this expertise is demonstrated in the publications that ISLI staff have published and contributed to. These include the Garnet English for academic study series, which was developed in association with the ISLI and written by ISLI staff. This series is used as the source material for the pre-sessional programme and for other courses across the world. The ISLI also produces InForm, a journal for international foundation programme professionals.
