RECRUITMENT IS CLOSED FOR THIS STUDY

Does beetroot juice effect blood pressure and types of oral bacteria? The main purpose for this study is to investigate if dietary nitrate can affect the make-up of oral bacteria in healthy people. A secondary aim is to determine if there are any relationships between the presence of nitrate-converting bacteria in the oral cavity with blood pressure, markers of blood vessel health and risk factors for developing heart disease.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Men and women aged 18 to 64
  • Willing to consume beetroot juice every day over 2 x 8 periods. With a 4 week wash out period in between.
  • Non-smokers, and in good dental health
  • Volunteers will be reimbursed for their time
