Welcome to the Centre for Wildlife Assessment & Conservation
The
Centre for Wildlife Assessment &
Conservation (CWAC), is an information and research resource created to
provide conservation practitioners and learners of the subject with
practical research support and valuable information covering a wide
variety of conservation topics.
Centred at the University of Reading, our goal at CWAC is to bring together University academics and wildlife conservation practitioners to enhance the prospects of meeting national and international biodiversity targets, including those outlined in Rio de Janeiro during the convention for global biodiversity.
If you are actively practicing wildlife conservation, CWAC can offer you a variety of resources including students for research and internal laboratory facilities. If you are studying or interested in studying wildlife conservation, the centre provides you with a wide array of information to help you.

Latest Eagle Owl Research Published
Friday 7th March 2008
The latest findings of a long-running research project based in Spain into the ecology of the eagle owl (Bubo bubo) have been published this month.
The
study, supervised by CWAC Director Dr Graham Holloway, was into the
relationships of the eagle owl with its key prey species: rabbits.
It reveals that the birds take visual cues from their prey to deduce
their health and fitness. By doing this they are able to selectively
predate rabbits that will be easier to catch.

New Website Launched for the 'What the Cat Brought In' Project
Tuesday 28th January 2008
The
‘What the Cat Brought In’ project is a four year study of the
interactions between urban birds and cats. Britain's bird
populations have been falling in recent years, as a result of many
different factors, and it has been speculated that domestic cats may
be an additional factor contributing to their declines.
The ‘What the Cat Brought In’ project was developed by Dr Phil Baker and is now being conducted by Becky Dulieu, Phil's new PhD student, with the help of several other undergraduate and postgraduate students.
