Special and company courses

We offer bespoke courses for companies in the UK and overseas. These courses can include company-specific material and systems. They can address the issues confronting your organisation, and include any management subject. They are designed to suit the academic / skill level of the candidates, and build upon their existing knowledge and competence.

Construction Project Management (Ref: CPM)

RIBA CPDTwo modules of two days each at the University (Modules 1 & 3). A project tackled in teams from individuals’ own workplaces; plus our own Project Management Handbook and Workbook to be completed (Module 2). They are substantial reference documents which will be valuable to a practicing Project Manager, intended to be worked through, and applied to the candidate's own work experience. APM accredited providerAn  assessed personal dissertation of 3000 words, based upon a Case Study Assignment (Module 4). The overall length of study is 2 to 3 months.

 

 

Construction Project Management – An Introduction (Ref: PMI)

RIBA CPDA one day intensive course for those wanting to learn the benefits of a project management approach, and the basics of its techniques. The course makes use of multi-disciplinary teams in case studies and problem-solving exercises. There will be a programme of follow-up study set during the course, which APM accredited provider candidates may wish to pursue, in order to build upon the learning of the course. A text book and a reference guide will be issued to all candidates.

 

 

Going Into Business – An Introduction For Building Tradesmen (Ref: GIB)

A two-day intensive course held over two Saturdays. It is for experienced building tradesmen who are beginning to be contractors in their own right, and need to understand how to manage and succeed in business, and meet the requirements of the law. The course is practical rather than academic by nature and involves working through realistic situations. The intended outcome is that the candidates will be equipped by their experience to meet similar challenges in their own work. A text book and a reference guide will be issued to all candidates.

Managing Project Organisations (Ref: MPO)

Two modules of two days each at the University (Modules 1 & 3). A project tackled in teams from individuals’ own workplaces, plus workbook material to be completed (Module 2). A personal assignment of 3000 words, based upon a Case Study Assignment, which is assessed for the Certificate (Module 4). The usual overall length of study is 2 to 3 months. The course provides a realistic route to senior management skills, taught at Diploma level and concentrates on creating competence. It includes APM-accredited material.

Business Management in Construction (Ref: BMC)

Two modules of two days each at the University (Modules 1 & 3). A project tackled in teams from individuals’ own workplaces, plus workbook material to be completed (Module 2). A personal assignment of 3000 words, based upon a Case Study Assignment, which is assessed for the Certificate (Module 4). The usual length of study is two to three months. This course is intended for those who find themselves at the head of a construction-industry organization, or in a senior management position.

Risk and Quality Management in Construction Projects (Ref: RQM)

Three one day taught modules (Module 1). A project tackled from individuals’ own workplaces, plus our own distance learning material (Module 2). The overall length of study is about three to five weeks. The Risk Management Workbook is issued to candidates. It is intended to be worked through, and applied to the candidate’s own work experience. The course follows the syllabus of the Association for Project Management’s Project Risk Management Specific Qualification, (Practitioner). Candidates normally take the exam following the course. This course provides a realistic route to qualification for busy people; and is effective, construction-specific training which concentrates on creating competence.

Strategy for Managers (Ref: SFM)

This one-day course is structured as an introduction to high-level management thinking, which equips delegates to orientate themselves and to revise their approach, with strategy incorporated in their thinking. Distance learning elements extend the scope of the course for those who wish to take the subject further. This course is designed to be accessible for managers whose background is practical and who are not naturally inclined to be academic. It picks up on practical competences with learning scenarios designed to expose the strategic potential within organisations already operating in a less-strategic way.

Risk Registers: Operating them effectively (Ref: RRO)
This one-day course is for project management and design professionals who need a practical grounding in understanding and operating a risk register. It is not related to any exam or qualification path and is effective, construction-specific training which concentrates on creating competence.

The RIBA Certificate in Construction Project Management (Ref: RIBA/CPM)RIBA CPD Advanced
An intensive, hands-on, modular, part distance-learning course.

This course is intended for architects and other construction industry professionals and managers who wish to consolidate their existing qualifications and experience with specific project management training. Its intended outcome is a professional level of competence, personal confidence, and a demonstrable level of qualification. It focuses on effective techniques and procedures for meeting the client's needs; avoiding problems and finding solutions; the culture of communication that makes this a practical possibility, and on the systems and tools for the job.

The fee includes the APMP exam cost. Where the exam is not included, or the candidate opts out, a discount will be given.
