Adapt your degree to match the evolving needs of industry

Personalise your studies

Our courses are structured so that you choose your final degree towards the end of your second year. Our four undergraduate degrees share a common first two years, meaning all our students study the same modules. At the end of your second year you can continue on your existing degree, or switch to any of our other undergraduate courses.

"Choosing your career is a challenging and life-changing decision. The University of Reading offers the flexibility to try a range of disciplines before you commit to your chosen one at the end of your second year.

This enables you to make a confident and informed decision - you develop an edge, as not only do you gain a depth of knowledge, you also gain a breadth of knowledge which is desirable to employers. This flexibility sets Reading apart from other universities and was one of the main deciding factors for me in choosing to study here."

Keep your options open

The unique flexibility of our courses enables you to acquire an in-depth knowledge across the construction spectrum and to decide which pathway matches your evolving interests before making an informed decision. You can find the course that's the right fit for you without having to compromise your studies.

This adaptability also enables you to evolve with the needs of industry: you can react to the changing economy, while developing a core set of knowledge and skills. You can also guarantee that your degree qualification will be the most relevant for your chosen career, and be confident in your ability to continually adapt your career to new opportunities in the future.

"I started at Reading doing Quantity Surveying, then changed to Construction Management and Surveying. It was really easy to change - it could not have been more useful to be able to switch degrees. Otherwise I might have ended up stuck in a quantity surveying career, without the confidence to move into construction management."

Focus your interest

In the third year of your degree you are able to choose optional research-led modules. This enables you to customise the course to meet your needs and interests. This choice, along with the depth and breadth of our programmes, allows you to focus your interests and align your study with your career aspirations.
