Staff Profile:Dr Vincenzo Costanzo

Research fellow involved in the following projects:

  • Research Cooperation in Renewable Energy Technologies for Electricity Generation (REELCOOP);
  • Low carbon climate-responsive Heating and Cooling of Cities (LoHCool).

  • PhD in Energetics from the University of Catania (Italy). Thesis title: Cool Roofs for improving thermal performance of existing EU office buildings;
  • Msc in Architecture and Construction Engineering from the University of Catania.

External Responsibilities:

  • Member of the American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineering (ASHRAE);
  • Member of the International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA);
  • Ad hoc reviewer of the journal Energy and Buildings.
Areas of Interest:

My research interests are related to the study of feasible strategies for reducing the energy needs of buildings, as well as improving their comfort (thermal and visual), with a special focus on existing buildings and passive cooling techniques. Moreover, active solar systems are of my interest.

Career Path:
After graduating cum laude in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Catania (Italy), I spent some months as an apprentice for a construction company. Afterwards, I started my PhD research in Energetics focusing on both passive and active systems for reducing building energy needs and improving their comfort conditions. During my PhD studies I spent six months as a visiting PhD candidate at School of Architecture of Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand), studying natural ventilation and daylighting measures for existing office buildings.
