New accreditation of postgraduate courses

wind-turbines_webThe School of the Built Environment at the University of Reading is pleased to announce the accreditation of several existing courses by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and the Energy Institute. Both CIBSE and the Energy Institute have accredited the following taught MSc programmes for a period of five years:

  • MSc Renewable Energy
  • MSc Design and Management of Sustainable Built Environments

Both of the above programmes are accredited for 'further learning for Chartered Engineer status'.

Also similarly accredited by CIBSE and the Energy Institute is the Engineering Doctorate (EngD) programme organised through the Centre for Technologies for Sustainable Built Environments (TSBE). The TSBE Centre is jointly funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) together with industry partners. The EngD qualification is equivalent to a PhD but with a strong emphasis on solving real-world engineering problems.

Professor Stuart Green, Head of School, commented:

"We are delighted to receive accreditation from CIBSE and the Energy Institute. We have strong mutual interests with both of these important professional bodies. An understanding of building services engineering and energy are essential to the modern built environment. Our success in securing this double accreditation is not only evidence of our excellent curricula, but also indicative of our commitment to research-led teaching".
