Research flourishes in the School of Construction Management and Engineering

The School of Construction Management and Engineering (SCME) at the University of Reading has recently secured a number of new research grants. These build on earlier successes which underpinned the School's very strong REF 2014 performance (see for example, the EPSRC Demand project in which the School is a key partner).

During the 2014/2015 academic year the School has so far secured in excess of £680,000 in research income, with projects focusing on a range of areas, including energy and sustainable homes. Specific projects include the following:

  • Economic and Social Research council (ESRC) Responsive mode. 'Making the zero-carbon standard home: understanding project-firm innovation in UK house building.' Overall award value £412,652.42 (fEC £515,815.52). Collaborative bid led by the University of Reading (UoR) in partnership with Loughborough University (LU). Principal Investigator - Prof. Martin Sexton. Co-investigators - Dr Libby Schweber, Prof. Andy Dainty (LU), Dr Dan Sage (LU). Project period 01/04/2015 - 31/03/2017.
  • Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Supergen Hydrogen Challenge. 'Hydrogen's value in the energy system.' Award value £88,030. A project led by University College London (UCL) with UoR one of the partner institutions. UoR Principal Investigator - Dr Phil Coker. Project period 01/01/2014 - 31/12/2017.
