Parties

Festa Junina (St. John's Party) - During the month of June the Brazilians celebrate Saints Anthony, John and Peter with lots of traditional foods, drinks and theatrical dance called “quadrilha”. These parties are called “Festas Juninas”. Usually colorful ornaments, a bonfire and fireworks compose the scenario. The Brazilian Society will celebrate St. John's Party on 18th June (saturday) 5pm to 10pm at St.Patrick's Hall Library Annex. (see pictures)

A carnival is a celebration combining parades, pageantry, folk drama, and feasting that is usually held in Catholic countries during the weeks before Lent. The term Carnival probably comes from the Latin word "carnelevarium", meaning to remove meat. Typically the Carnival season begins early in the New Year, often on the Epiphany, January 6, and ends in February on fat Tuesday. Brazil’s Carnival is a 4-day celebration held throughout all of the cities in Brazil. The most famous carnival celebrations are in Rio de Janeiro and Salvador. The Rio de Janeiro Carnival is a time for parades, dancing, dressing-up and Samba competitions. It's one of the most beautiful spectacles in the world. The BPS organizes a carnival party every year, if you lost our party this year join us in the next one. (see pictures)
