ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
 

The Department of Sociology offers individual research supervision leading to the award of a higher research degree (Ph.D. or M.Phil.) in one of the particular substantive and methodological areas of strength of the department.

  • The Ph.D. course extends full time over a normal registration of three years. Part-time students' normal registration extends over five years. The PhD consists of a major piece of empirical research leading to a thesis of about 80,000 words.
  • The MPhil course extends full time over two years, or part time over three. The PhD consists of a major piece of empirical research leading to a thesis of 60,000 words.
