About the Department
Italian at Reading was started in 1948 by the well-known novelist Luigi
Meneghello. Today the Department is one of the largest in the UK, with nine
full-time academic staff. It has a
distinguished record in research and scholarship, and was awarded the highest
grade, 5*A, now 6*, in the last Research Assessment Exercise. We pride
ourselves on the quality of our teaching, and aim to provide a lively, friendly
and supportive environment, in which the interests and aptitudes of each student
can be developed to the full.
