ROCKINGHAM 29/4/06

Rockingham would be my second track day with Lotus on Track (top guys!). As usual I'd been watching the weather forecasts avidly and watching in car videos of laps of the track. This would be my last track day without a trailer as I had decided I really need one if I am to continue doing this on a regular basis. So the car just needs to survive this one and I no longer have to worry about how to get home if it breaks down. I set off at 6.45am on the Saturday morning for the two hour journey, my first longish trip without a windscreen. This time I wore skiing gloves as I didn't want frozen fingers again as I did on the way up to Silverstone. But it wasn't as cold (about 6 degrees) so I was fine on that score.
I met up with Stuart, a Caterham driver also going to Rockingham, in the petrol station about half way up. We had a little chat and decided to drive up together. Rockingham is very well signposted, so for once I arrived without getting lost.

Mark and I attended the usual briefing, got into our race suits, checked the tyre pressures (I'd checked all the fluids and suspension bolts the day before), and we were ready for our first session.Unfortunately they would not let us use the garages, which I thought was a bit off, especially as it looked like it might rain (despite the weather forecast of sunny intervals and no rain). But it turned out to be a dry day, so this wasn't a problem.
