Brands Hatch with LoT (19 February 2007)

Things didn't look good for the track day. The day before we'd had three inches of snow, and although some of it had melted during the afternoon, sub zero temperatures overnight meant that where it had thawed snow would be replaced by ice. I'd been studying the weather forecasts for a few day beforehand though and was sure that we'd have no ore snow or rain on the day and this proved to be the case (apart from a couple of very light showers).

So I set off at 6.30 on a very cold Friday morning wearing as many layers of clothing as I could wear and still afit into my racing seat. After 30 minutes of motorway driving I was still reasonably warm and began to think that the drive there wouldn't be so bad after all. But the cold began to get through the many layers of clothing at that point and I began gradually to get colder and colder, so that by the time I arrived at teh track I was shivering and very relieved to be out of the car and having a hot drink.

I'd bought a cheap mini camcorder and was planning to take my first in car videos. I wanted to try fixing the camera off the side of the roll bar and was worried about gravel being flicked up by the front wheel, and in general by the spray, so I made a polycarbonate windscreen for the camera which bolted to the camera bracket. But although this protected the camcorder from spray it didn't quite work out, as can be seen here. more to come...
