About the 2001 Group

The 2001 Group is an inter-university postgraduate community in French Studies. It originated in November 2000 at a meeting organised by Professor Naomi Segal at the University of Reading, aiming to promote collaboration between staff and research students at member institutions. Our current members are Oxford Brookes University, Queen Mary, University of London, the University of Reading, the University of Southampton, the University of Surrey, the University of Warwick, and University of Exeter.

From September 2001 to September 2004, the 2001 Group was part of the Collaboration Programme in Modern Languages funded by HEFCE's Restructuring and Collaboration Fund and administered by the UCML and the Subject Centre in Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies.

From September 2004 to September 2006, the 2001 Group was funded by the AHRC's Collaborative Research Training Funding under the direction of Professor G Hugo Tucker. For further information on the AHRC, click on www.ahrc.ac.uk.

Since September 2006, the 2001 Group has continued many of its original activities through ongoing cooperation between the member institutions. Every year one of the member institutions hosts a postgraduate study day, and an e-journal, consisting of papers delivered at the study say, is published during the autumn term on this website.
