Research grants and contracts September 2012
In September over £1,400,000 was awarded to the University for research funding from a range of sources. The largest grant in September was awarded to the Graduate School. They received £1,023,323 from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Block Grant Partnership.
Since 2009, the University has received an annual allocation from the AHRC for the training of doctoral researchers and Masters students. September's award was for a total of 66 research studentships over five years. Across the duration of the award, the awards are based in the following discipline areas: Archaeology, Classics, History, History of Art, Typography, Dance, Drama and Performing Arts, English Language and Literature, Italian Language and Culture, Philosophy.
Dr Daniel Feltham, a new member of staff who will be joining Meteorology, received £300,111 for a research project to investigate realistic sea ice melt in climate models and a further £75,217 was awarded to Professor Robert Gurney from the Environmental Systems Science Centre for research investigating sea-level rises relating to a specific area in Antarctica both from the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
