Entry Requirements

The level at which you can start your study at the University of Reading depends on what level of qualification you have completed currently.

Título Académico de Bachiller / Diploma de Bachiller with a successfully completed appropriate foundation/bridging programme - International Foundation Programme Undergraduate Degree (Bachelors Degree)
Successfully completed first year of a Mexican University degree Undergraduate Degree (Bachelors Degree)
Licenciado (4 yrs) with 8/10 Postgraduate Degree (Masters Degree)
Grado Académico de Maestría / Grado de Maestro Research Postgraduate (Doctoral Degree)

International Foundation Programme

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) enables students that don't have qualifications equivalent to British A-levels to access undergraduate university degree courses. If your highest level of qualification is the Título Académico de Bachiller or Diploma de Bachiller, it is likely that you will need to complete this Programme before you can study for a degree.  

The IFP will provide you with the academic training, language and study skills to start your undergraduate studies with knowledge and confidence and will prepare you for undergraduate study in three ways:

  • by providing academic training in three subjects
  • by developing your English language abilities
  • by enabling you to acquire the study and life skills which you will need on your degree programme.

English Language Requirements

The minimum English language levels for courses at the University of Reading are IELTS 6.5, TOEFL (paper) 570, TOEFL (internet) 88. Some courses require higher levels - you should always check with the department or faculty you are applying to. For more detailed information see the English Language requirement page.  

We offer courses that will help prepare you for study in the UK, including English language as well as study skills to help your prepare for our degree programmes.

Applications and funding

How to apply

All undergraduate applications must be made through the UCAS website.  The UCAS code name and number for this University is READG R12.  Find out more about applying through UCAS

The University offers £4M worth of scholarships each year in addition to national programmes from both the British government and the Mexican government.

External Scholarships

FIDERH Loan Scheme 

The University of Reading has a fee discount scheme in operation with FIDERH Mexico (Fund for the Development of Human Resources). Under the terms of this, a 15% fee discount scholarship is available for any graduate program at The University of Reading for students with a GPA of more than 9 and 10% discount available for students with a GPA of over 8. The first call for proposals for 2015 has been published on the FIDERH website The application period is from 19th - 30th January 2015 and results will be announced on 20th March 2015.

Candidates who are selected under The University of Reading/FUNED Scholarships Agreement must satisfy the internal entry requirements of The University of Reading. Every year an open number will receive a fees-only scholarship of 10% discount of tuition fees. In cases where the student has a GPA of 9 or above, he/she will be entitled to a tuition fee reduction of 15%. Please visit the FUNED website for further details.
